POST SOVIET MELANCHOLY
There are a lot of old Russian cars in Armenia: hidden in the Capital City among modern SUV, under strain on snowy mountains or abandoned in desert fields. They remind us a world that should be no longer there...but still exists. Time in Armenia seems to stop in 1991, the year in which the Soviet Union ended. They are colourful and everywhere: the old Russian cars, especially Lada, don’t stop fighting against age and gravity. Those still working are kept as precious stones, but in each garden or oil station, you can find those that could not make it, but they can still be useful to their living sisters, thanks to their spare parts. The Armenians were always kind and polite in posing for my pictures next to their cars or, in allowing me into their gardens, or in showing me where to find new cars, even though they did not clearly get the aim of my project. They laughed while I was shooting another wreck in a field.
